What a side dump does best
A side dump tips its tub to one side on hydraulic rams and lays the load down fast — and it can spread while the truck creeps forward. The reason crews run them on tight or uneven ground is stability: a side dump keeps its center of gravity low through the dump, so it stays planted where a raised end-dump box would get nervous. Aggregate, asphalt, riprap, sand — if the site is confined or the material needs spreading, this is the tool.
What Western stocks
Side dumps are the dump we move the most of. On the yard right now we run the SmithCo SX line — SX3 through SX6, roughly $87,900 to $142,900 by axle count and length (42–53 ft) — plus the SmithCo SXL3 and Midland TW4000 (about $96,900) and a Side Dump Industries super tri-axle. Western has been an authorized SmithCo dealer since 2011 and is one of the top SmithCo dealers in the country, so the parts, the spec advice, and the trade help come from people who sell these every week.

Common Side Dump Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most about side dump trailers.
Side dump trailers haul and spread bulk material — aggregate, asphalt, sand, riprap — and unload by tilting the tub to one side. They're favored on tight or uneven job sites and for spreading material on the move, because tilting the tub keeps the load low and stable instead of raising a tall box.
Yes. A side dump's center of gravity stays low through the dump, so it has the lowest rollover risk of the common dump styles. An end dump raises a tall box to empty, which is why end dumps want level, firm ground while a side dump can unload on surfaces that would make an end dump unsafe.
Western stocks SmithCo SX3 through SX6 side dumps in lengths from about 42 to 53 feet, plus Midland units — from tri-axle up to six-axle configurations. Tell us your payload target and the states you run in and we'll spec the axle count and length to keep you legal and loaded.
